  1. Where can I learn more about Joint Masters/LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law and Management?
    The Joint Masters/LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law and Management is a unique programme which is being jointly offered by the National Law University Delhi (NLUD), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Mark (GCPDTM – Indian IP Office).

  3. Do I need to have a legal background for appearing in All India Law Entrance Test, 2025 for taking admission in M.A. in IP Law and Management?
    The Joint Masters/LL.M. Programme in IP Law and Management is a first-of-its kind, which is open to people from legal as well as non-legal background. Students with LL.B. as a qualifying degree shall be granted LL.M. Degree, whereas the students with non-law background (as per eligibility criteria) shall be considered for the grant of M.A. Degree.
  4. Am I eligible for the Joint Masters/ LL.M. degree in Intellectual Property Law and Management?
    In order to ascertain your eligibility, check out the criteria below:

    • Two Bachelor's degrees in succession, with at least one in a relevant discipline.
    • OR
    • An integrated 5-year program after 12th grade in a relevant discipline
    • OR
    • An equivalent post-graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

    • A 4-year Bachelor's degree with Honours/Research from a recognized university
    • If you have completed a Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B. or equivalent).
    In all cases, the candidate has to secure a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate (50% for reserved categories such as SC/ST/Persons with Disability) to be eligible for admissions in the M.A. Degree.The candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% for reserved categories such as SC/ST/Persons with Disability).
  5. Can I still apply, if I am awaiting results of the qualifying examination?
    Yes, you can still appear for the entrance test. However, you must produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination at the time of admission.
  6. When will the application window open?
    The applications for the All India Entrance Test will commence on 01 August, 2024.
  7. Where to apply?

  8. What is the Admission Process for Indian Nationals and Officials of the Office of CGPDTM?
    You will be evaluated on the basis of your AILET Merit (70% weightage), group discussion (15% weightage) and interview (15% weightage).
  9. What is the Admission Process for Foreign Nationals? And will they have to appear for the written entrance examination?
    The Foreign Nationals (Candidates possession citizenship of a country other than India) are exempted from taking the written entrance test and their admission shall be based on: (i) Academic Record; (ii) Group Discussion; and (iii) Interview.   10. How will I know that I have been shortlisted for the interview?
    The merit list will be published on the official website and the successful candidates will also be receiving intimation via an email.
  11. What is the application fee for appearing in the entrance examination?

  12. Are there any scholarships which a prospective candidate can avail?
    Yes, a limited number of scholarships are available from WIPO supported by the Government of Japan for international students from developing and least developed countries. Please refer to the WIPO Academy website for more information.
  13. Who will be the deciding authority in regard of scholarship applications?
    Scholarships will be granted based on the decision of the Steering Committee of the Joint Masters/LL.M. Programme in IP Law and Management.
  14. Can the candidates avail any fee concession?
    No.
  15. What are the categories of the candidates recognized under the programme?
    There are three categories: (i) Indian Nationals; (ii) Foreign Nationals; and (iii) Officials of the Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademark (CGPDTM).

  17. What is the test pattern for the M.A. entrance examination?
    The test pattern for the written entrance examination shall be as under:

  18. What documents have to be furnished candidates at the time of application?
    The following documents are required for the application process:
    • Photograph (Max Size : 1 MB)
    • Signature (Max Size : 1 MB)
    • BPL certificate issued by the competent authority (if you belong to BPL category) (Max Size: 2 MB)
    • Passport (if you belong to a Foreign National category) (Max Size: 2 MB)
    • PWD Certificate (if you are claiming a reservation under the PWD Category) (Max Size: 2 MB)
    • Identity Card issued by the Office of CGPDTM (For Officials of CGPDTM)
  19. Is there an age limit to apply for the programme?
    No.
  20. What is the duration of the programme?
    The programme shall be for the duration of one year.
  21. What is the tuition fee of the programme?

  22. Will the hostel accommodation be provided to the students?
    No. Due to paucity of rooms in the hostel facility on campus, the National Law University Delhi shall not be able to provide hostel accommodation to any student admitted in the Joint Masters/LL.M. Programme. The candidates taking admission may seek accommodation near the campus. The approximate cost of modest shared accomodation and living expenses per month is INR 30,000/-.
  23. Is this a regular programme or will the classes be conducted virtually?
    No. The classes will not be held virtually. They will be conducted physically on campus of the National Law University Delhi as well as Indian IP Office, Dwarka, New Delhi in full time mode.
  24. Which is the degree granting authority for the purpose of Joint Masters/LL.M. in IP Law and Management?
    National Law University Delhi will be the degree granting authority for the programme. However, the logos of all the partners shall be affixed in the Transcript/Degree certificate.
  25. What is the health coverage provided by the University during the duration of the programme?
    National Law University Delhi has an in-house dedicated medical personnel staff. For hospitalization/ Out Patient Department (OPD), students will have to procure a valid insurance for the term of the programme. Alternatively, students can avail discounted rates that is (CGHS) – Central Government Health Scheme at designated hospitals which are on the panel of National Law University Delhi.

  27. What are the onboarding and FRRO requirements for Foreign Nationals to study at NLU Delhi?
    Any student who has been admitted to NLU Delhi will be registered through the Study In India Program to begin the course at NLU Delhi in order to complete the onboarding and FRRO formalities. For detailed information, the candidates should refer to Onboarding & FRRO (studyinindia.gov.in)
  28. Can I appear for UGC-NET (Law) after the Joint Masters/LL.M. in IP Law and Management?
    For the purposes of UGC-NET in Law Subject, only candidates who have LL.M. can appear.
  29. What are the applicable regulations for NLU Delhi's Joint Masters/LL.M. Programme in IP Law and Management?
    As per the UGC: "A statutory university can award degree specified under Section 22 of UGC Act, 1956, with the due approval of its competent councils and statutory councils, wherever required and in accordance with the Regulations notified by UGC from time to time."

  30. What is the conversion of vacant seats?
    The conversion of seats will take place as follows:
    Vacant Seats from Indian Nationals Category: Any vacant seats arising under this Category shall be filled from the General Category candidates in order of merit for respective degree programmes.
    Vacant Seats from Foreign Nationals Category: Any vacant seats arising under this Category shall be filled from the Indian National Category Candidates in order of merit of respective degree programmes.
    Vacant Seats from M.A. Degree Programme: In the event that no suitable candidates are found for admission to the M.A. Degree Programme, any vacant seat arising shall be converted to LL.M. Degree Programme and such seats shall be filled from the Indian National Category/ Foreign National Category respectively in the order of merit.
  31. Does the Joint Masters/LL.M. in IP Law and Management provide placement opportunities?
    Placement opportunities for the Joint Masters/LL.M. in IP Law and Management are managed by the Recruitment Coordination Committee (RCC), a student-driven body formed by every batch. The University does not directly participate in the placement process. The RCC coordinates placement efforts and works to connect students with potential employers.
